perfume: love the world

Perfume's seventh major single, and their first to reach the top of the Oricon charts, contains two songs: love the world and edge, as well as an original instrumental version of the former and an extended mix of the latter.

{ ♫ even i, who is fumbling
feel like i understand
your timing is so soft
isn't that sneaky? chu-chu-chu
love love the world ♫

The first is an light-hearted technopop song, addictively catchy and just amazing to listen to. It has a bit of an 80's feel, especially with the accompanying black-and-white PV, and all the girls shine. The song builds up beautifully to the chorus, which explodes in a beautiful blend of synthetic elements and the girls' sweet voices.

{ ♪ everybody dies in the end
then, before the time comes
i will see a new world crushing
the hardest and sharpest part of my body ♪

edge has a 'darker' feel to it - electrohouse music at its best. With its heavy elements, Yasutaka seems to have dipped back from his work with capsule and drawn club music to the Perfume scene. The song comes off with a more mature feel of sorts, proving that A-chan, Nocchi and Kashiyuka can take on the harder side of synth.

The songs compliment each other beautifully, making this one of my favorite Perfume singles to date.
